Intense Pulse Light Photo-rejuvenation

The breakthrough in laser technologies today is the event of effective and practically painless procedures with practically no recovery time. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a new wave of light-based rejuvenation treatments that offer the advantages of allowing patients to go back to work immediately.

IPL uses a wide range of wavelengths which enables us to treat a greater number of skin conditions. Treatments are done in a series to improve uneven pigmentation, rosacea, redness, sun damage, and red acne scars. Improvement will be seen after each treatment, and typically, IPLs are done in a series of at least three treatments for best results.  Rejuvenation is also achieved by deeper wavelengths penetrating into the collagen, which in turn produces tightening of connective tissue.

We often recommend that a combination of treatments, such as a non-ablative laser treatment with BTX injections, offer greater significant long-term improvement. Botulinum toxin dramatically softens existing wrinkles and works to decrease your ability to frown or squint which prevents additional damage.

IPL treatment

Experience and Expertise

We perform over 500 IPL sessions annually and we are at the forefront of technology. All patients are assessed by a consultant dermatologist (a medically trained specialist) before any IPL is done. We comprehensively assess of your skin type, the level of photodamage and aging, and address any underlying factors. For example facial redness and flushing maybe due to underlying rosacea. In treating skin disorders it is important to address the trigger factors and aim for prevention.

Equipment

For our IPL we use the Quantum IPL – one of the best machines available. This state of the art IPL leads the field in precision, power and most importantly, patient comfort levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can photo-rejuvenation do for you?

  • Decreases broken capillaries and thread veins.
  • Decreases background redness of rosacea.
  • Reduction in flushing/blushing of rosacea, alleviates burning and skin sensitivity.
  • Fading of Freckles and blemishes and Sunspots.
  • Rejuvenation of sundamaged skin.

What is involved with the procedure?

Overall the procedure is very well tolerated and in 99% of the time no anaesthetic is required. The skin is kept cool with both gel and a cooling plate in contact with the skin. Protective eyewear must always be left on during the procedure as the light source is extremely bright. When a pulse of light is delivered a slight sting is felt, similar to a flick from a rubber band.

On average, an IPL session takes 30 minutes to perform. Redness after the procedure last a few hours to a few days, but make up maybe applied if desired.

Freckles and spots may darken over the following days. They usually work their way up the skin and are expelled after 7 to 10 days

How many treatments do I need?

As a guide, up to 3- 5 treatments are necessary for the best results. Treatments are spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart.

What are the costs involved?

On average, each treatment session costs $380. Medicare and Private Health insurance companies do not rebate any treatments.
