BTX - Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

BTX injections is a safe and dramatically effective method of reducing wrinkles and the effects of aging on your skin. BTX works by blocking the nerve impulses to the muscles, reducing their ability to contract, thereby relaxing wrinkles. In experienced hands one can achieve a significant result without the need for invasive surgery.

What conditions can benefit from BTX?

  • Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows can be reduced
  • Horizontal forehead lines can be relaxed
  • Wrinkles on the sides of the eyes will be softened
  • Puffiness of the eyes maybe reduced and shapely browlifting maybe achieved.

What is involved with the procedure?

The procedure is relatively painless as BTX is introduced via injections using a very small needle. Following application of a simple ice pack to help numb the skin, a number of injections are placed in the areas treated. The procedure is usually over within 10 minutes. Mild redness and swelling of the area is seen for 20 minutes after the procedure and is reduced with application of ice.

How soon are the effects seen, and how long will the results last?

BTX will start to work from day 4 onwards and will be noticeable by 7-9 days. The effects will gradually wear off after 4-6 months, however with subsequent injections more prolonged results are seen.

Are there any side effects of BTX and is it safe?

BTX has been used in medicine for over 2 decades and has an excellent safety record.

Side effects are uncommon; in less than 1 % of patients temporary and reversible drooping of the eyelids may occur. There is also the possibility of a temporary headache, which is usually relieved with panadol.

It is useful to know that side effects are rare, and that if they do occur, they are only temporary and reversible.

What is the cost of BTX?

The cost depends on what area/s we are treating. As A guideline we charge $19 per unit. Typically 25- 30 units are needed to treat the frown area, and 20 units to treat the wrinkles around the eye area. Your dermatologist will give you recommendations as to what areas we can improve on and provide you a quote before the procedure. Remember, you are only charged for the actual amount of BTX used.

Why are we different from other people who perform BTX?

Experience and specialist assessment makes us unique. As dermatologist we are trained to not only assess wrinkles, but to assess pigmentation, your skin tone, the degree of photodamage and treat any underlying blemishes. Who knows skin better than a dermatologist? BTX is only one step in improving you! As experienced BTX injectors, we believe in softening ones lines, refreshing and rejuvenating your look, and not total paralysis of muscles. We advise on not only reducing wrinkles- but most importantly, preventing them! The experience of the injector is so important in creating a natural look without going overboard.
