Photodynamic Therapy- the treatment of choice for sunspots
Solar keratosis or sunspots are a common skin condition in Queensland. They present as red, scaly, rough areas on sunexposed sites such as the face, scalp, hands, and the chest area. They may bleed or sting. Solar keratosis are precancerous lesions and should be treated. They accumulate with time and age. For a few lesions, simple treatments such as liquid nitrogen( freezing) are sufficient and effective. For larger areas a ‘field’ treatment is required.
Photodynamic Therapy or PDT is a safe, effective and convenient way to treat sun damage. In the majority of cases, only one treatment is needed and patients can resume their normal activities within 5-7days.
