The most common allergy is metal allergy, namely nickel. Nickel if found commonly on keys, coins, jewllery, buckles, jean studs, glasses frames and cooking utensils. Allergy may present in all forms including hand dermatitis, eyelid rashes, facial rashes, sensitive skin, rashes around the abdominal areas or even as small blisters on the hands and feet.

- Cobalt: Jewellery, dental plates, polish remover
- Formaldehyde: Clothing, Shampoo, cosmetics
- Balsam of Peru: Perfumes, cosmetics and toiletries
- Colophony: Sticking plaster, polishes and varnish
